nee Volk. Evacuated to Bohemia, attended primary school at Friedland,
moved to Bad Harzburg (Lower Saxony), completed primary and secondary
(A levels 1957).|
Studied English Language and Literature, Classic and Indo-European Studies at the universities of Berlin, Durham, Heidelberg and Oxford (1957-68), interrupted by political imprisonment in East Germany (1961-64). Staatsexamen Berlin, FU, 1966.
Lecturer in the English Department of Heidelberg University (1967-84) of Medieval Studies, English Language History and English Linguistics. Heidelberg Dr.phil. 1970.
Married (1971) to Mechthild G., nee Pohlmann; two boys born 1975 and 1977.
